Mattel India has unveiled its ‘You Can Be Anything’ film featuring Harmanpreet Kaur, the India Women’s National Cricket Team Captain.
As per the brand, it was established in 1959 and what began as a fashion doll to empower young girls introduced by Ruth Handler, a visionary mother, has today grown into an internationally recognised cultural icon with a 65-year legacy. In commemoration, Mattel India has debuted this film.
Barbie aims to remind kids everywhere that they can be anything from princess to president, astronaut to zoologist- encouraging young kids to dream big and believe in their limitless possibilities.
All year long in celebration of the brand’s 65th anniversary, Barbie is putting a spotlight on inspiring stories shaping the future. With the belief that ‘You Can Be Anything’, the brand is proud to welcome Kaur, as a role model. She has joined a distinguished community of Barbie role models, who inspire a vision of possibility and achievement across diverse fields, championing the need for positive influences by emphasising that “you can be what you can see”.
She is a transformative figure in the Indian women’s cricket team. Her playing style, leadership, and consistency, especially in World Cups, have elevated the profile of women’s cricket in India and significantly contributed to the sport’s growing global popularity, the brand stated.
By amplifying the stories of trailblazers and championing the momentum surrounding women in sports, the brand hopes that young girls can be inspired to stay in sports and pursue their passions.
As part of this partnership, Barbie has presented the ‘You Can Be Anything’ film featuring Kaur alongside five young Barbie fans. These children were selected through our nationwide Barbie You Can Be Anything Tour held exclusively at Hamleys. This initiative encouraged kids to showcase their talents and explore various careers, directly engaging them in the spirit of the campaign.

Speaking about the development, Kaur said, “It’s an honour to collaborate with Barbie and serve as a role model for young girls across India. Like the support I received from my father, I believe in nurturing young minds with positive influences like Barbie, empowering them to believe in their dreams without limits. Together, we aspire to motivate and uplift the next generation to realise their fullest potential.”
Aditi Ravichandar, Head of Marketing, Mattel India, said, “The brand purpose of Barbie is to inspire the limitless potential in every child. When a child plays with Barbie, they play out their dreams and imagine they can be anything. This in turn puts the brand in a powerful place to be able to empower children to unlock a variety of possibilities for the future. In line with this purpose, we are thrilled to partner with Harmanpreet Kaur. This partnership allows us to continue to shine a light on inspirational women doing amazing things, thereby empowering the next generation!”
