Boss Doesn’t Find Woman Online For Work 24×7 Like Other Male Colleagues & Netizens Replied

Don’t you just enjoy working from the vicinity of your home? While that is all fun and games, it comes with its own drawbacks as your bosses might expect you to be available at all times. The line between personal and professional can easily get blurred leaving most employees distressed. The same thing happened with this woman employee who got scolded by her boss because she wasn’t available 24×7 like the other male colleagues at work.

Karan Tripathi shared a tweet about his sister talking about how she was the only female scientist in her company and her boss still had two words to say to her about her not being active on the weekends like the male colleagues did.

My sister, who's the only female data scientist in her company, was told by her boss today that she should learn from her male colleagues who work relentlessly over the weekend and never switch off their work stations (1/2)

— Karan Tripathi 🏳️‍🌈 (@TripathiGee) January 13, 2021

Karan added that most women had other roles at home besides office work. They had chores, personal relationships and also leisure activities to pursue other than drowning into work.

There was no review of HER performance, simply a call to 'pull up her sleeves' because her male colleagues are available 24×7. That boss had no awareness about the difference in domestic duties of male and female professionals (2/3)

— Karan Tripathi 🏳️‍🌈 (@TripathiGee) January 13, 2021

The WFH culture has invisibilised the gendered struggles of navigating personal and professional life. Offices are becoming ignorant towards the disproportionate burden of WFH on women, who manage work alongside expectations of being the primary performer of domestic duties

— Karan Tripathi 🏳️‍🌈 (@TripathiGee) January 13, 2021

Offices are supposed to understand the struggles of working from home and managing daily life. While some companies are nice enough to provide leaves and have no work on the weekends, others slog their employees to the extent where they wonder about their mental well being.

A number of users shared their views about this disgraceful situation.

Maybe a better conversation would be to have the male work force switch off over weekend so they can take the burden off their female partners who are employed elsewhere. But perhaps that’s too long sighted for capitalism and its cousins.

I don't think the workload has increased! I think covid has brought out the worst in capitalism and it's now like tum ghar pe baithe ho, kaam karo… Cause if workload increases, output increases, then no reason to cut pay no? Or give bonuses, or raises for that matter

— Ritika Jain (@riotsjain) January 13, 2021

Some were even quick to point out how women had ‘other things to do’ than take care of domestic chores and that some men also take the burden by splitting chores with all women.

Why are we taking the discussion away from a bad boss to the demand of "females should do household work". The expectation that she has to do that, is wrong.

Then comes the point that the boss is a screwed up character to say this. He needs to be fired.

— Madrasi (@mad__rasi) January 13, 2021

U mean, mostly the ONLY performer of domestic duties. Certain men treat domestic duties as though they are trying something new – like bungee jumping. A picture of which will be promptly uploaded on social media to prove how they are "helping with chores"

— Ritika Jain (@riotsjain) January 13, 2021

Thankfully, this situation brought out the plight of many other female users who were subject to this criticism at work.

Once my boss questioned my lack of availability over weekends & I told him ‘that I don’t have a wife to run my household & hence I cannot work every weekend’ poor soul was taken aback and from next time onwards he would check before assigning tasks on weekends! #Menareclueless

— Godhuli (@godhuliaa) January 13, 2021

I was told by my female boss that I should not be complaining about working late as I was just staring off my career and compared me to her husband(works at a bank) who has been working late hours since past 15 years.

— Apoorva (@monopoco00) January 13, 2021

Irrespective of gender, working beyond office hours and performance evaluation based on 24/7 availability shall never be encouraged.

— ABMR (@bhatt_03) January 13, 2021

Do you agree that work should not be done beyond office hours?
