Fortnightly Social Media Roundup: New AI Features, Better Analytics & Creator Updates Lead The Way

The pace of innovation across social media platforms continues to accelerate, with artificial intelligence moving from experimental features to core product experiences. Over the past few years, platforms have shifted their focus beyond user engagement to building AI-powered creation, advertising, business messaging and discovery tools. At the same time, companies are refining safety measures, introducing better analytics and making content more accessible through multilingual capabilities. Fortnightly Social Media Roundup: New AI Features, Better Analytics & Creator Updates Lead The Way

Meta

Meta launches Muse Spark 1.1

Meta has introduced Muse Spark 1.1, an upgraded AI model designed to improve image understanding and visual reasoning capabilities. The model aims to deliver better performance across multimodal tasks, allowing developers to build applications that can interpret images more accurately.

The update reflects Meta’s broader AI strategy of strengthening its open AI ecosystem while improving the quality and efficiency of generative AI experiences across its products.

Meta adds more safeguards for AI

Meta has announced additional safety measures for its AI systems to reduce harmful or inappropriate outputs. The company says the new guardrails improve how its models respond to sensitive prompts while maintaining usefulness for everyday users.

The move comes as AI tools become more widely used across Meta’s apps, with the company placing greater emphasis on responsible AI deployment alongside rapid feature expansion.

Instagram

Instagram removes AI Remix option

Meta is removing the AI Remix feature from Instagram after a limited rollout. The feature allowed users to generate AI-based variations of images, but the company has decided to discontinue it as it evaluates future creative AI experiences.

The change suggests Meta is prioritising AI tools that see stronger user adoption while refining its long-term generative AI roadmap.

Meta introduces chatbot performance metrics

Meta has added new analytics for businesses using AI chatbots on Messenger and WhatsApp. Brands can now access additional performance metrics to better understand chatbot effectiveness, customer engagement and conversation outcomes.

The expanded reporting is expected to help businesses optimise automated customer interactions and measure the impact of AI-powered messaging more effectively.

Edits app adds bilingual captions

Meta’s Edits app now supports automatically translated bilingual captions, allowing creators to generate captions in multiple languages without additional editing.

The feature aims to make creator content more accessible to international audiences while reducing the effort required to localise videos.

Instagram

Reels expands AI-powered translations

Instagram is rolling out additional AI translation capabilities for Reels, enabling creators to automatically translate audio and captions into more languages.

The feature is designed to help creators reach global audiences while improving content accessibility and cross-border discoverability.

Facebook

Facebook tests public view counts

Facebook is testing a feature that displays view counts on regular posts. Similar to video metrics, users may soon be able to see how many people have viewed individual posts.

If rolled out widely, the feature could provide creators and brands with another engagement signal beyond likes, comments and shares.

WhatsApp

WhatsApp adds green live status indicator

WhatsApp is introducing a green dot indicator to show when contacts are actively available within the app. The feature is intended to help users identify who may be ready for real-time conversations.

The update mirrors similar presence indicators already seen across several messaging platforms.

Threads

Threads introduces community flair tags

Threads has added flair tags for community posts, making it easier for users to identify conversations belonging to specific communities.

The feature improves content organisation while helping users discover discussions that match their interests.

X

Grok-powered insights arrive in Ads Manager

X has integrated Grok-powered insights into Ads Manager, giving advertisers AI-generated recommendations to optimise campaign performance and understand audience behaviour.

The feature aims to simplify campaign management by providing actionable insights directly within the advertising platform.

X to notify Community Notes contributors

Meta competitor X is testing direct notifications to users who contribute to Community Notes. Contributors will receive updates about the status of their notes, helping them understand whether submissions were published or require further input.

The update is intended to improve participation and transparency within X’s crowdsourced fact-checking system.

X updates engagement bait detection

X has refined its systems for identifying engagement bait—posts that encourage artificial interactions through repetitive prompts such as “Like if…” or “Comment yes.”

The update is intended to promote more authentic conversations while reducing the visibility of manipulative content designed primarily to boost engagement metrics.

YouTube

Ask YouTube comes to desktop

YouTube has launched a desktop version of Ask YouTube, extending its AI-powered conversational search experience beyond mobile devices.

Users can ask questions about videos, topics and recommendations, making content discovery more interactive and contextual.

More access to supervised accounts

YouTube is expanding supervised account access, allowing more families to transition children into a safer version of the standard YouTube experience with parental controls.

The expansion gives parents additional flexibility while supporting age-appropriate viewing as children grow.

New music options for carousels

YouTube has confirmed new music integration options for image carousel posts, giving creators more ways to add soundtracks to visual content.

The enhancement expands creative possibilities and aligns carousel posts more closely with Shorts’ multimedia experience.

LinkedIn

LinkedIn rolls out AI promotional tools

LinkedIn has introduced new AI-powered promotional tools to help businesses create and optimise campaigns more efficiently. The tools assist marketers in generating promotional content and improving campaign performance.

The update reflects LinkedIn’s continued investment in AI-driven advertising solutions aimed at simplifying B2B marketing workflows.
