The Delhi High Court has directed Meta Platforms Inc. to take down infringing content uploaded across 14 Facebook pages carrying television serials and web series owned by Z Entertainment Enterprises. The court has, however, declined at this stage to direct the blocking of the Facebook accounts.
The order has been passed by Justice Anup Jairam Bhambhani in a copyright infringement suit filed by Z Entertainment Enterprises against Meta and 18 other defendants, as per media reports. Z has sought permanent, mandatory and dynamic injunctions restraining infringement of its copyright and broadcast reproduction rights, along with damages, disclosure, rendition of accounts, delivery-up and other consequential reliefs.
Z has alleged that operators of multiple Facebook pages have been uploading and distributing its content on a real-time and continuous basis through several Facebook pages and login accounts.
Senior Advocate Abhinav Mukerji, appearing for Zee, has submitted that although Meta has acted on takedown notices in some instances, the platform has sometimes limited the removal to certain geographical locations, allowing the same infringing content to remain accessible elsewhere. He has further submitted that the Facebook pages have monetised Zee’s content through advertisements and argued that Meta has also appeared to benefit from such monetisation.
The court has observed that Z has established a prima facie case and that the balance of convenience has been in its favour. It has also noted that irreparable loss and injury would have been caused to the company if interim relief had not been granted.
Accordingly, the court has granted an ad-interim injunction against Meta and the operators of the 14 Facebook pages. However, it has clarified that it has not been persuaded at this stage to direct the blocking of the Facebook accounts and has instead ordered Meta to remove the infringing content identified through the specified URLs.
The matter has been listed before the Joint Registrar on October 15, 2026, for completion of pleadings.
