Bharti Airtel founder Sunil Bharti Mittal has laid out a long-term succession roadmap for the telecom giant, saying he plans to gradually hand over the reins of the business to the next generation over the next decade.
As per media reports, Mittal, during the company’s recent earnings interaction, said he wants promoter entity Bharti Telecom to eventually regain majority control in Airtel with a stake of over 50%, as leadership and ownership responsibilities transition within the family.
The announcement comes shortly after Airtel’s board approved Mittal’s reappointment as chairman for another five-year term beginning October 1, 2026.
Mittal’s children have already started taking on larger responsibilities across the Bharti Group ecosystem. His son Shravin Bharti Mittal currently serves as managing director at Bharti Global and has been closely involved in the group’s international investments, including its OneWeb bet. Kavin Bharti Mittal is known for his technology ventures, while daughter Eiesha Bharti Pasricha has built a presence in the lifestyle and investment space.
