Ajay Gupte has been set to join Dentsu in a senior leadership role. He has recently stepped down from his position as President, Client Solutions South Asia at WPP Media, where he has been overseeing client partnerships and strategic growth across the region.
Sources aware of the development have told Marketing Mind that Gupte has been preparing for the transition following his exit from WPP Media and has been expected to take on a key leadership mandate within Dentsu’s senior management structure.
Prior to this, he has served as President, Client Solutions South Asia at WPP Media from July 2025. Before that, he has spent over seven years and eight months at Wavemaker, where he has been CEO, South Asia from January 2020 to July 2025, COO, South Asia from August 2019 to January 2020, and Managing Director from December 2017 to July 2019 based in Indonesia.
Earlier, he has been Managing Director at MEC from July 2011 to December 2017 in Jakarta, Indonesia, and Country Head for MEC Indonesia during his tenure. Between March 2009 and July 2011, he has been Director at mediaReach OMD across West Africa, covering Nigeria and Ghana. He has also been Project Lead – Advertising Products at OnMobile Global from September 2007 to February 2009 in Gurugram, and General Manager at MAXUS Global from April 2006 to September 2007, leading the Delhi office.
Prior to that, he has worked at TVS Motor Company for over four years and three months, serving as Area Sales Manager from October 2004 to April 2006 and Manager Communications from February 2002 to October 2004 in Bengaluru.
He has begun his media career at Madison Media as Media Controller from June 2000 to February 2002 and earlier at Mudra Communications as Media Planner/Senior Media Planner from May 1998 to June 2000 in Bengaluru.
