Tata Motors has undergone top-level management changes ahead of a planned demerger into two listed entities for its cars and commercial vehicle businesses.
Shailesh Chandra has been appointed as an additional director, MD and CEO, and key managerial personnel (KMP) of Tata Motors for a three-year term effective October 1, 2025. He will continue as MD of Tata Passenger Electric Mobility, the company’s EV unit.
Girish Wagh has resigned as Executive Director and KMP of Tata Motors, effective October 1, 2025. He will join the board of TML Commercial Vehicles, the proposed listed entity for the company’s commercial vehicle business, as Additional Director, MD and CEO, and KMP from the same date.
PB Balaji has resigned as group CFO and KMP of Tata Motors to take charge as CEO of Jaguar Land Rover Automotive, effective November 17, 2025. Dhiman Gupta, currently CFO and KMP of Tata Motors EV, will assume the role of Tata Motors CFO and KMP from the same date.
With these changes, Tata Motors now has a leadership triumvirate: Chandra as CEO of Tata Motors PV, Wagh as CEO of Tata Motors CV, and Balaji as JLR CEO.
Other board-level changes include the exit of independent directors Hanne Sorensen, Kosaraju Veerayya Chowdary, and Guenter Karl Butschek. Sorensen will continue on JLR’s board, while Chowdary and Butschek will join TML Commercial Vehicles, Sudha Krishnan will join Tata Motors as an independent director from October 1, 2025, and Balaji will join Tata Motors’ board as a non-executive director from November 17, 2025.
