Sonakshi Sinha has taken to Instagram to criticise brands for using her pictures on their websites without obtaining usage rights. She has pointed out that while artists often credit brands when they wear their outfits or jewellery, the reverse practice of featuring celebrity images without consent has gone unchecked.
She has stressed that such unauthorised usage crosses ethical boundaries and urged brands to either take down her pictures or compensate her fairly.
“As someone who shops online often, I couldn’t help but notice my images popping up on several brand websites, without usage rights or even a courtesy request for permission. How is that acceptable? When an artist wears your outfits or jewellery, a post is made giving your brand due credit, but featuring those same images on your official website? That’s stretching it a bit too far. Let’s keep things ethical, shall we? Basically what I’m saying is pull down my images before I start calling you out, or let me know where I can send my invoice… your call,” she has posted.
The actor has also reminded brands that she frequently shops online and has noticed multiple instances of her images being used without permission. As per media reports, she is not the first star to highlight this issue. Actors like Anushka Sharma and Amitabh Bachchan have previously raised objections against brands misusing their likeness without approval.
