In the latest survey done by Bank of America Merrill Lynch, it has revealed that two-thirds of Jio sim owners use Jio data to watch live television and stream videos. “The telecom aggregation apps like JioTV and JioCinema are turning into one-stop places for consumers to view all content as they do not have to download the individual over-the-top streaming apps,” BofAML survey report read.
The report also revealed that 68 percent of the Jio subscribers use the platform to download videos on their mobile handsets. Around 23 percent said that there is no change in data usage habits because of Jio’s entry. JioTV is the most used app among the apps offered by Jio. The Airtel TV app, on the other hand, has over 10 million downloads despite Bharti being late in entering this sector. About 2GB of data is consumed every month when compared to 0.23GB before Jio’s launch, according to Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).
Jio is on its way to challenge India’s cable television service providers. Apps like JioTV and JioCinema are turning into one-stop destinations for consumers to view all content as they want to without downloading individual streaming apps for every channel.
Heavy discounts are expected for new customers and Jio is launching new plans especially for consumers who mainly use it for streaming videos. Free calling services and unlimited internet offer has changed the game for other companies and they are bound to give better plans at a low price because customers have shifted very quickly to Jio.

It is surprising how one good step can make others worried and even big players like Airtel are feeling the heat of competition. Next few months will be very interesting for the telecom market as everyone is trying to win the trust of consumers and they have become smart too. Also, cable television service providers are finding it difficult to get the same viewership as users love to watch Youtube and Netflix and for that one needs a stable connection like Jio.
