In yet another strategy to capture more user base, Reliance Jio is now working on bringing large-screen smartphones at affordable prices. The aim is to cater to the large mass of customers who look forward to upgrading themselves from a feature phone to a smart 4G phone.
“We are trying to work with partners who can bring in affordable large-screen smartphones for a large mass of customers who are yet to make a shift to a 4G smartphone, so that they can experience the right kind of connectivity as well as the right kind of connectivity as well as the right kind of content on devices which are affordable,” Sunil Dutt, head sales, channel development at Reliance Jio, said.
“We will keep coming out with something new in every few months,” said Dutt, when asked about the future device launches.
In regards to this, reportedly Jio is in talks with Flex, US contract manufacturer for locally manufacturing about 100 million smartphones. With these 100 million phones, Ambani seeks to test waters and at the same time enhance and increase his current market share. The bigger dream is the switch of 500 million feature phone users to a smartphone. Though Jio also works with other mobile handset companies like Samsung, Xiaomi, Apple, Oppo etc. and creates bundled offers with its network and data plans, but with these specially manufactured handsets, Jio clearly wants to give smartphone in every hand
“Wherever we feel there are gaps in the market which the people are not able to address or not able to take a risk about because they have their own priorities at times, those are the markets that we will then want to address,” Dutt said.
“There are billions of people who are on devices which do not support good data experience or rich content experience, for them we introduced JioPhone to start experiencing more content services of Jio like television, cinema, music, even YouTube, Facebook and WhatsApp,” said Dutt.
