Actress Rakul Preet Singh has been ruling hearts with her performances in Bollywood and regional cinema. And now, adding another feather to her cap, she is all ready to put on her businesswoman shoes. With her brother Aman Preet Singh, she has launched an app for aspiring talent in the film industry, by the name Starring You.
Recalling her days of struggle in the film industry, auditioning for films and then waiting up on the follow-up process, she came to understand that matching the required talent with the industry’s requirement is a long and tedious process. And so, to simplify this process, she and her brother came up with the idea of an app that connects aspiring actors, choreographers and writers with the right people.
The platform- Starring You, has tied up with various production houses, casting agencies and even individual directors and plan to tie up with more of them by next year. Current partners include the likes of Anti Casting, Pooja Entertainment, Hummara Movie, Luv Films, Venkatadri Talkies, Vision Celeb Hub, and Suresh Productions and music labels Just Music and Salim Merchant.
The platform has 15 talent categories like actors, dancers, directors, models, singers, writers, make-up artists, voice-over artists etc. To this, a few more categories will be added every three months. The app will allow the user to create his or her profile and that profile will be visible only to talent hunters. With already 10 inhouse talent hunters who are strategic partners, the service is being offered for free at the start and plans to attract around 10 lakh users by 2022 end.
Rakul Preet has contributed to the initial investment of upto 50 lakhs. And brother-sister duo is now in talks with individual investors and venture capitalist firms too. Here’s wishing them all the very best for this new venture!
Considering the demand for content creators for both, long form and short form content, is increasing due to high media consumption, a platform like this is sure to be of immense help, according to Nitin Menon, a cofounder of NV Capital, a credit fund for the media and entertainment sector.
