OpenAI has launched the OpenAI Academy for News Organizations, a dedicated learning hub designed to help newsrooms adopt artificial intelligence in a practical and responsible manner. The programme is aimed at journalists, editors, product teams and newsroom leaders looking to integrate AI tools into reporting, production and operational workflows.
The Academy offers a range of on-demand training modules, including introductory courses that explain how AI systems work and how they can be applied in journalism. More advanced sessions are targeted at technical and product teams, focusing on building custom tools and integrating AI into newsroom systems.
Training content highlights real-world use cases such as investigative research support, data analysis, multilingual reporting and workflow automation. The platform also includes shared resources and open-source projects that news organisations can adapt to their own editorial and operational needs.
Alongside technical training, the Academy places emphasis on responsible AI use, providing guidance on transparency, governance and ethical considerations. OpenAI has said the initiative draws on its ongoing engagement with media organisations and journalism groups to reflect best practices for the use of AI in newsrooms.
The company plans to expand the Academy over time with additional courses, live sessions and case studies, positioning it as a long-term resource for the global news industry as it navigates the growing role of artificial intelligence.
