Oldest Indian Billionaires To Feature In The Forbes 2023 Richest Billionaires List

India has its fair share of the richest people on earth -from reigning businessmen like Mukesh Ambani and Gautam Adani, to the youngest billionaires like Nikhil and Nithin Kamath, to women billionaires like Savitri Jindal and Rekha Jhunjhunwala.

Today, let’s take a look at the oldest billionaires in India, to have featured in the Forbes 2023 Billionaires List.

1. Keshub Mahindra- 99 years

A visionary leader and philanthropist, Keshub Mahindra re-entered the Forbes List of Richest Indians this year. At 99, he was the oldest billionaire to feature in the list.

With a net worth of more than INR 10,000 crore, Keshub Mahindra was the Chairman emeritus of Mahindra & Mahindra.

However, just days after entering the list once again, he passed away due to natural causes related to age.

2. Lachman Das Mittal-92 years

Owner and Chairman of Sonalika Group, the third largest tractor manufacturer in India in terms of market share, Lachman Das Mittal’s net worth amounts to $2.5 billion.

An LIC agent, who started his business at the age of 60, Lachman Das Mittal has passed on his business to his sons and grandsons. Recently, the Group attracted a 30% stake from Japanese firm Yanmar.

At 92 years, he is the second oldest billionaire and the first living billionaire in India, after Keshub Mahindra left for his heavenly abode, earlier this year.

3. Kushal Pal Singh- 91 years

Real estate developer Kushal Pal Singh is the Chairman Emeritus of DLF Limited, a firm found by his father-in-law Chaudhary Raghavendra Singh.

He is worth $ 9.9 billion and is one of the oldest billionaires in India. Today, Delhi-based DLF is chaired by his son Rajiv and is the country’s largest listed property firm w.r.t market capitalization.

4. Benu Gopal Bangur- 92 years

Cement tycoon Benu Gopal Bangur’s net worth amounts to $6.7 billion, and he gets this wealth from a majority stake in Shree Cement.

Shree Cement was Found in Jaipur in 1979, and is the parent company for Shree Ultra Jung Rodhak, Bangur Cement, and Rockstrong.

Today, his business is run by his son Hari Mohan Bangur and his son Prashant. At 92, Benu Gopal Bangur is one of the oldest billionaires in the country.

5. Dr Prathap C. Reddy- 91 years

Cardiologist and entrepreneur Prathap C. Reddy found India’s first corporate chain of hospitals – Apollo hospitals. The Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan awardee’s net worth amounts to $2.5 billion, making him one of the oldest and richest billionaires in India at the age of 91 years.

His business is now run by his four daughters- Shobhana Kamineni, Preetha Reddy, Suneeta Reddy and Sangita Reddy.

6. Hasmukh Chudgar- 89 years

Hasmukh Chudgar is the founder of generic drug maker Intas Pharmaceutical, and with his family, commands a net worth of $7.6 billion. Always the one to keep a low profile,
Hasmukh Chudgar handed over operations to his sons Nimish and Binish who now run the company with flair.

Mother Dairy is targeting a 20% increase in revenue to over Rs 24,000 crore in FY27, backed by rising consumer demand and plans to expand into new markets, according to media reports. As per media reports, the dairy major recorded a turnover of Rs 20,300 crore in FY26, up 17% year-on-year. The company has more than doubled its revenue over the last five years, crossing the Rs 20,000-crore milestone. As part of its growth strategy, Mother Dairy is looking to strengthen its presence outside Delhi-NCR. Chairman Meenesh Shah said the company is exploring entry into new markets where it currently has limited or no presence. The company is also setting up a dairy plant in Maharashtra, has leased a facility in Hyderabad, and is establishing a second plant in Bihar. Managing Director Jayateertha Chary said sales in the first two months of the fiscal have been encouraging, with ice cream emerging as a strong-performing category. Reports also suggest that from Mother Dairy’s FY26 turnover, the dairy business contributed more than Rs 15,000 crore, while edible oils and horticulture accounted for around Rs 5,000 crore. Around 63% of revenue came from Delhi-NCR, with the remainder generated from other parts of the country. The company currently reaches more than 95 cities across India and operates nine milk processing plants, four horticulture processing plants and 16 associated edible oil facilities.
