Millennial Achievers 2025: Pourushasp Mehta On Curiosity, Culture & Why PR Is Not For Everyone

From early curiosity to culture-defining communication, Pourushasp Mehta, Head of Communications at Red Bull India, reflects on the moments, mindsets, and decisions that have shaped his journey, in conversation with Marketing Mind.

Millennial Achievers 2025: Pourushasp Mehta On Curiosity, Culture & Why PR Is Not For Everyone

The Millennial Achievers Awards 2025 have once again celebrated professionals who have not just adapted to change but have actively shaped the future of advertising, marketing, media, and business. At the third edition of the awards, Marketing Mind has recognised Pourushasp Mehta, Head of Communications at Red Bull India, with the Gold Award for Corporate Communications & PR Professional of the Year,  a recognition that has reflected both the scale of his work and the intent behind it.

“Honored to be recognized by Marketing Mind in their Millennial Achievers Awards 2025. Happy to receive the Gold Award for the Corporate Communications and PR Professional of the Year,” Mehta said. He added that “Marketing Mind’s Millennial Achievers Awards is instrumental in spotlighting the boldest and brightest voices shaping India’s marketing and innovation landscape along with voices that we are proud to stand beside.” For him, the recognition has gone beyond a trophy. “Here’s to more collaborative moments, to amplifying what’s next, and to fueling the visionaries who will define India’s future,” he shared.

Looking back at where it all began, Mehta has reflected that his journey into advertising and marketing has not followed a predictable script. “Every journey starts somewhere and mine began quite unexpectedly,” he said. “I didn’t grow up imagining a career in PR or communications.” What has drawn him in, instead, has been a growing fascination with the power of narratives. “Early on, I found myself fascinated by how stories shape perception and how the right narrative can completely transform the way people see a brand, a place, or even a person.”

That curiosity has led him to TRAC Representations, a tourism destination marketing firm, which he has described as his first real immersion into the world of communication. “I was young, curious, and eager to learn,  and TRAC became my first real immersion into the world of communication,” he recalled. “It was pure learning-on-the-job: understanding media dynamics, figuring out what makes a story worth telling, and seeing firsthand how powerful well-crafted communication can be.” Those early experiences, he said, have shown him that he has both “the instinct and the appetite for this world.”

His curiosity has soon pushed him towards formal education. “That curiosity led me to formal education,  first through the Advertising & PR course at KC College,” he said, explaining how it gave him “the foundational understanding and academic backing” he needed. His MBA at WeSchool, he added, “widened my lens, exposed me to business thinking, and, most importantly, put me through the rigorous placement process.”

It has been during that phase that clarity has set in. “It was during that phase that everything clicked,” Mehta said. “I realised three things very clearly: Public relations is something I am good at. It’s work I genuinely enjoy and thrive in. And it’s a career where I can create real value for individuals, brands, and organisations while building a meaningful professional identity of my own.” That clarity, he shared, has set the course for everything that followed. “Today, as Head of Communications at Red Bull India, I still feel that same excitement I felt on day one,  the thrill of shaping stories, building trust, and giving willingness to ideas, talent, and culture.”

When asked about the philosophy that has shaped his growth, Mehta pointed to three anchors. “If I had to pinpoint the philosophy that has shaped my growth the most, it would be a combination of curiosity, consistency, and clarity of intent,” he said. “This profession rewards people who stay curious about culture, consumer behaviour, media shifts, and what truly moves people.” That curiosity, he explained, “keeps me learning, keeps me adapting, and keeps me ahead of trends rather than reacting to them.”

Consistency, he has added, has been equally critical. “Showing up consistently, day after day, with the same intensity,  whether it’s a marquee national campaign or a seemingly small internal task,  is non-negotiable.” Communications, he said, is “a field where trust is built through reliability.” What guides him most, however, is intent. “I’ve always believed that PR isn’t just about coverage,  it’s about creating impact, building narratives that matter, and enabling the success of individuals and organisations around me.” When intent is clear, he has noted, “recognition becomes a by-product, not the goal.”

Mehta has also reflected on the pivot point that has shaped him as a leader. “My defining pivot point wasn’t a single dramatic event,” he said. “It was a realization that came during one of the more challenging phases of my early career.” He has admitted that he has been doing well but not truly growing, and “comfort in a career like PR can be dangerous.” That realisation has pushed him to make what he now sees as his boldest decision. “I stepped away from a predictable path and pushed myself into environments where the expectations were higher and the stakes were bigger.”

The MBA placement process, he has shared, has been a defining moment. “Competing with some of the brightest minds, being evaluated rigorously, and constantly needing to articulate who I was and what I brought to the table forced me to look inward with complete honesty.” That’s when, he said, “it clicked.” “Public Relations wasn’t just a skill I had,  it was the space where I could thrive, lead, add value, and build something meaningful.” Choosing growth over comfort, he reflected, “is a decision I carry with me every day.”

Speaking about what excites him today, Mehta said, “What excites me most about the communications and marketing world today is the convergence of storytelling, culture, and consumer behaviour.” Audiences, he observed, “don’t just consume narratives,  they actively shape them.” Storytelling, for him, remains central, but with a caveat. “Creativity today isn’t about being louder; it’s about being truer.” At Red Bull, he explained, “we’re not just communicating,  we’re building culture, creating platforms for athletes, artists, creators, gamers and more, and letting their stories travel organically across borders.”

Looking ahead, he been clear about where he wants to push boundaries,  “reimagining PR as a cultural engine,” “building scalable Indian stories with global relevance,” “deepening the role of creators and communities,” and “using platform behaviour and technology intelligently to make storytelling more discoverable, immersive, and long-lasting.” As he put it, “The future belongs to brands and communicators who understand culture deeply, move with agility, and create stories that feel human.”

Despite the pace of the industry, Mehta said what keeps him grounded is “a mix of perspective, people, and purpose.” “Communication is a people-first profession,” he reminded. He has also been candid about the realities of PR. “PR is not for everyone,” he said openly. “Cracking quality editorial coverage and earned social amplification,  with clear brand attribution and zero paid influence,  is one of the toughest things to consistently deliver.” Rejection, he acknowledged, is common, and “success often comes quietly, without applause.” Yet, he insisted, “that’s also what makes it incredibly rewarding.”

His advice to young professionals has been unequivocal: “Be honest about why you want to be in PR. Master the craft before chasing outcomes. Respect the media ecosystem. Develop resilience. Understand brand responsibility. And finally, choose PR only if you love the challenge.” When done right, he concluded, “PR has the power to build credibility, shape culture, and create impact in ways very few disciplines can.”

As the celebrations have drawn to a close, the third edition of Millennial Achievers has brought together India’s brightest minds as Marketing Mind has unveiled winners across 17 categories. From bold creators to visionary strategists and innovators, the 2025 cohort has represented the very best of next-gen talent shaping the future of advertising, marketing, media, and business, with Pourushasp Mehta’s story standing as a powerful reminder that clarity of intent, curiosity, and courage can turn communication into culture.
