Maruti Omni
Maruti Omni has been one car that we all remember for some reason or the other. Not for the Millennials, but for the generation of the 80s and 90s the car was part of our childhood. Most people resonate the Maruti Suzuki Van with either school vans or with a kidnapping vehicle in our Hindi films. Either the picture of a van loaded with school children in the front and the back or opening of that sliding back door and putting the heroine in by some goons, is what comes to the mind whenever we think of Maruti Omni.

Reason for Discontinuation
But somewhere it is sad to learn that after a journey of 34 long years, the car would not be discontinued. The car is not equipped to meet the current safety standards and hence it won’t be produced anymore. Also since the current design cannot be modified to adhere to the new crash norms, there is no option for the company, but to discontinue it.
Whatever memories we may carry, but we have to accept that Omni was one of the very successful models from the house of Maruti. It may not have been a family car, but in commercial segments, it was very widely accepted.

Brand Speak
R C Bhargava, Chairman, Maruti Suzuki India said: “There are certain models that cannot be made ready to meet the upcoming safety norms and we will have to discontinue them, Maruti Omni being one of them. The Maruti 800 was a very important model for us but we had to discontinue it, in a similar manner we will also discontinue the Omni.”
Well, with mixed emotions, we finally bid goodbye to the official kidnapping car of Bollywood Movies. Bollywood certainly has to work on other option for filming such scenes.
