JioStar reported a strong first quarter for FY27, with operating revenue rising 14% YoY to Rs 10,946 crore, while EBITDA from operations grew 31% YoY to Rs 933 crore, driven by subscription growth and higher entertainment advertising revenue. Profit before tax (PBT) increased 14% YoY to Rs 667 crore, although EBITDA margin narrowed to 9.6% from 10.6% a year earlier. The company noted that the quarter was impacted by weak market sentiment due to the real money gaming ban and the US-Iran conflict, while Linear TV continued its transition, offset by strong digital growth.
On the platform front, JioHotstar’s monthly active users (MAUs) reached 530 million in Q1 FY27, marking a 15% YoY increase from 400 million in Q2 FY26. The company also recorded 700 million platform users during IPL 2026, up 12% YoY, with the tournament continuing to serve as its largest acquisition funnel. IPL 2026 delivered 7% growth in overall reach and 19% growth in connected TV (CTV) viewership over the previous season. Meanwhile, the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 witnessed 155% growth in digital viewership and 208% growth in CTV viewership compared to the 2024 edition.
JioStar highlighted several product initiatives during the quarter. Its micro-content hub ‘Tadka’ crossed 100 million active users across over 200 content titles within two months of launch. The company also said its OpenAI-powered Conversational Discovery feature gained strong traction, while it launched its first in-house AI-created micro-drama, Game On! The 4000 Cr Empire.
In entertainment, digital watch time grew 16% YoY, with JioStar maintaining a 34% Linear TV market share. The company said content performance remained robust, with Dhurandhar 2 emerging as the platform’s most-watched movie to date. The Laughter Chefs franchise recorded 57% growth in digital watch time across editions, while Pritam and Pedro became the platform’s top Hindi special opening of 2026.
