Jeep India is currently working on a sub-4 meter compact SUV for the Indian market. The company is going to launch its new product next year, but it is believed that it can be offered officially by the end of this year. The sub-4 meter compact SUV can be positioned under the Jeep compass and will compete against the Maruti Vitara Brezza and Hyundai Venue in the Indian market.
The new SUV is expected to use the Fiat’s small wide platform, which also forms the base for the Renegade SUV, which measures a little over 4 meters. Renegade has appeared many times during testing in Mumbai and Pune. However, the sub-4 meter SUV that Jeep is putting together for India is likely to be very distinct from the Renegade.
Specifications
The multiple test mules of the Jeep Renegade suggest that the American SUV maker could be using the former to test key components that will go into the sub-4 meter SUV. Every SUV wearing the Jeep badge gets a dedicated TrailHawk variant, which offers competent levels of off-road performance. The sub-4 meter SUV is likely to be no different, with the top-end trim offering an all-wheel-drive layout, a trail-rated suspension set up and high ground clearance.
Apart from this, the company can also offer a 1.4-liter turbocharged petrol engine in it. Apart from this, the company can also offer a 1.3-liter multijet diesel engine in it, but it is not clear whether the diesel engine will be BS6 compliant or not.
Jeep also has a 1.6-liter multijet unit which will be equipped with BS6 standards. If the company offers this engine in its new compact SUV, it will be taxed more, which may increase its prices. Therefore, it is believed that the company will introduce it as entry-level variants with the 1.0 liter 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine from Fiat‘s firefly line up. This engine generates power of 118 bhp and torque of 190 Nm.
