How ‘Vicco’ Became A Global Name With Its Ayurvedic Line Of Products

India is a country of culture & tradition. There have been many rituals that have been followed for many centuries now. In fact, Indian culture is dated back to be termed as one of the oldest in the world. However, with time, we have evolved with the world, not leaving our true essence behind.

Many Indian practices like Ayurveda and Yoga are popular around the globe. These practices are now full-fledged industries making billions each year.

Many cosmetics brands in India have also been pioneers of all-natural Ayurvedic products. While today, the competition is tough with many ayurvedic brands in the market, the one product we all Indian swear by has always been ‘Vicco’.

Growing up, we all remember singing along to the famous Vicco Turmeric jingle. Even today, the jingle can be heard on television or in a movie theatre during the interval.

For decades, the brand has been a household name in India. The company has made a prominent place for its products not only in our houses but in our hearts too.

So what made the brand achieve such astounding success? Let’s take a look at Vicco’s historic timeline.

The Historic Start

Vicco Laboratories was founded by Keshav Vishnu Pendharkar in 1952 as ‘Vishnu Industrial Chemical Company’.

It was in 1959 that Mr. Gajanan Keshav Pendharkar joined his father, Keshav Vishnu Pendharkar, in their family business. He had successfully formulated the first Ayurvedic Toothpaste in the world with 20 rare medicinal natural herbs.

Gajanan Keshav Pendharkar was the man behind the famous yellow-colored face cream known as Vicco Turmeric Skin Cream, an Ayurvedic Product.

Making A Place In The Market

When the company was established, Indians were shifting their interest towards western products. While the country was fascinated with what was going on around the globe, Gajanan Keshav Pendharkar was relentlessly promoting the science of Ayurveda through Vicco.

Right from its inception in 1952, the VICCO Group of companies has been charting an ‘unwavering course’ that has helped the group attain the international limelight.

Vicco Laboratories has been the flagbearer of the Indian Ayurveda and with its nurturing, protecting, and rejuvenating medicinal products and remedies has successfully completed nearly 70 years in the market.

VICCO Group has emerged today as makers of the best internationally known products of the Ayurveda and the group’s annual turnover is estimated at Rs 400 crores.

Mother Dairy is targeting a 20% increase in revenue to over Rs 24,000 crore in FY27, backed by rising consumer demand and plans to expand into new markets, according to media reports. As per media reports, the dairy major recorded a turnover of Rs 20,300 crore in FY26, up 17% year-on-year. The company has more than doubled its revenue over the last five years, crossing the Rs 20,000-crore milestone. As part of its growth strategy, Mother Dairy is looking to strengthen its presence outside Delhi-NCR. Chairman Meenesh Shah said the company is exploring entry into new markets where it currently has limited or no presence. The company is also setting up a dairy plant in Maharashtra, has leased a facility in Hyderabad, and is establishing a second plant in Bihar. Managing Director Jayateertha Chary said sales in the first two months of the fiscal have been encouraging, with ice cream emerging as a strong-performing category. Reports also suggest that from Mother Dairy’s FY26 turnover, the dairy business contributed more than Rs 15,000 crore, while edible oils and horticulture accounted for around Rs 5,000 crore. Around 63% of revenue came from Delhi-NCR, with the remainder generated from other parts of the country. The company currently reaches more than 95 cities across India and operates nine milk processing plants, four horticulture processing plants and 16 associated edible oil facilities.
