Diageo’s Chief Business Development Officer Shweta Jain Calls It Quits

After serving the role of Chief Business Development Officer- Luxury, Reserve, and Craft (India and South Asia) at Diageo India for close to three years now, Shweta Jain has decided to move on.

She joined the alcobev major in January 2018 as its Vice President- Luxury Commercial and Key Accounts (India and South Asia) and was elevated to the role of CBDO- Luxury, Reserve, and Craft (India and South Asia) in September 2021.

Expressing her views on the move, she mentioned, “Marked my last days at Diageo this week and spent them well with people who fuel it all. You have all left me with huge gratitude for your partnership in every dimension possible. Teams, stakeholders, and colleagues who walk the talk learn and unlearn, challenge<>equally get challenged and yet prevail. A gigantic thanks for every bit of enrichment that I leave with.”

Reminiscing the Walkers & Co anthem that the brand had launched last year, Jain also said, “Last year John Legend and Rajakumari penned the Johnnie Walker/ Walkers & Co anthem to include these words: …There is more to life… step off that borderline…there is so much we can explore…you wanna turn it all the way up… Let’s Keep Walking, keep on walking…. This rallying cry was as close to my own purpose as it gets (at that time just in the subconscious) as I started my Diageo journey over six years back. It has been an absolute privilege to lead the India & South Asia luxury premium ++ business and iconic brand portfolio cross functionally to unprecedented heights.”

“DIAGEO India gave a broad canvas and I had the privilege of setting an audacious vision of shaping the culture of socialisation while breaking new grounds of growth by premiumisation. In some time, it became the overarching driving force for teams across the organisation and like how… There we were- winning one milestone to the other, cruising through turbulence and tailwinds alike. A lot of what we led with, added hugely to normalisation of spirits as a category overall. Campaigns that won consumers & awards, platforms to celebrate new dimensions of inclusivity (beyond gender), future ready, sustainability forward innovations, growth in multiples and not just in CAGRs, all lines of the P&L brimming with healthy glow!” she added.

Before joining Diageo in January 2018, Jain worked for William Grant & Sons as Head of Marketing for a period of more than two-and-a-half years, from January 2015 to September 2017.

Prior to that, she was associated with ShopClues as Marketing, Strategy and Communications Consultant for eight months, starting April 2014.

From June 2007 to September 2013, she served as Pernod Ricard’s Category Marketing Head- Super Premiums and Luxury for a period of more than six years.

In the past, she also worked with creative agencies such as Ogilvy and McCann Worldgroup.

From 2003 to 2007, she worked as a Management Supervisor/ Group Head at Ogilvy wherein she lead the teams on Coca Cola India brand Sprite, Gillette- P&G, HT Media- Mint, Seagram (now Pernod Ricard)- Scotches and CSR.

For a year prior to that, she was associated with McCann Worldgroup from November 2001 to December 2002 as Group Account Manager.

Earlier on, she also worked as Product Marketing Manager at Gillette India from 2001 to 2002 and Account Manager at Rediffusion DY&R from 1998 to 2000.
