BMW Trolls Mercedes Showing Its CEO Driving BMW Car. Mercedes, Daimler Gave Cheeky Replies

| Published on May 27, 2019

Brand wars in advertising aren’t new. From time too time, we get to see brands trolling each others talking about the loopholes of the rival brand to show their own superiority. BMW & Mercedes Benz are two popular brands that are known for making ads in which they make fun of each other.

Recently, the brand war of these popular car companies went to a new level when BMW hired an actor resembling Mercedes Benz CEO Dieter Zetsche to showcase how after his farewell he picked a rival company’s car.

They have launched a video ad representing the same and the video has already gone viral. In the video made by BMW, the doppelganger of Zetsche is seen going about his last day as CEO of Mercedes Benz. He is seen clicking selfies with several employees as he prepares to leave office. The video features him leaving the company’s office in a Mercedes-Benz S-Class. In the end, after reaching home, the man opens garage door opening and Zetsche driving a BMW i8 Roadster. The punchline of this advertisement is “Free at last”.

The video gives a beautiful tribute to Zetsche’s long contribution to the automobile world. “Thank you, Dieter Zetsche, for so many years of inspiring competition,” the message read. You can see the complete ad below:

Seeing this, Mercedez-Benz came up with a cheeky reply. Mercedez, not only gave a great reply but also did smart marketing by mentioning their new electric brand that’s directly competing with BMW’s electric models. Daimler too joined the banter.

Twitter just loved the presence of mind of both the brands and started expressing their views about this. Have a look at some of them:
