Meta has appointed Alex Schultz as its first-ever Chief Data Officer (CDO), creating a new leadership role that signals the company’s increasing focus on data and artificial intelligence across its businesses. He announced the elevation via a heartfelt LinkedIn post.
Schultz, a nearly two-decade veteran at Meta, most recently served as VP Analytics and Chief Marketing Officer from September 2020 to July 2026, leading the company’s global marketing and analytics functions.
Prior to that, he was VP, Analytics, Internationalization and Growth Marketing from July 2014 to September 2020, where he oversaw growth initiatives, international expansion and data-driven decision-making across Meta’s platforms.
He previously held several leadership roles within the company, including Director, Growth Marketing, Internationalization and Analytics from July 2011 to July 2014, Manager, Growth Marketing and Analytics from January 2009 to July 2011, and Analyst, Product and Growth Marketing from November 2007 to January 2009.
Before joining Meta, Schultz served as Marketing Manager at eBay from October 2004 to November 2007.
Outside Meta, he has also held several board and advisory positions. He has been a Non-Executive Director at Lindblad Expeditions since February 2022, a Trustee at Wessex Archaeology since May 2024, and has been the Owner of paperairplanes.co.uk since June 1996.
Schultz’s appointment as Meta’s inaugural Chief Data Officer comes as the company doubles down on AI-driven products, advertising technologies and data infrastructure, making data governance and analytics increasingly central to its long-term growth strategy.
