Meta has announced that Threads has crossed 500 million monthly active users, marking a major milestone for the text-based social platform nearly three years after its launch. To celebrate the achievement, the company is rolling out a suite of new community and personalisation features aimed at deepening user engagement.
Among the key updates, Meta is graduating Communities out of beta and introducing several highly requested enhancements, including custom community icons, expanded recognition for community champions and dedicated visual identities for communities. The company said communities have been one of the platform’s fastest-growing features and a major driver of user growth.
Threads is also introducing Your Algo, a new feature that gives users more control over the content they see in their feeds. The tool allows users to privately provide feedback on topics they want to see more or less of, building on the “Dear Algo” feature launched earlier this year. The feature is initially rolling out in select markets, including the US, UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
Meta credited the platform’s growth to the conversations and communities that have emerged around topics ranging from sports and entertainment to parenting and books. The latest updates reflect the company’s broader strategy to make Threads a more personalised and community-driven social experience as it continues its push toward becoming a leading public conversation platform.
