The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has launched three initiatives aimed at strengthening India’s media and digital ecosystem, including a national AI skilling programme, a citizen content platform, and improved access to public broadcasting services. The initiatives were unveiled by Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting.
The first initiative, a National AI Skilling programme in partnership with YouTube and Google, aims to train 15,000 creators, media professionals and students in AI tools and technologies through a phased curriculum covering foundational and advanced modules.
The Ministry has also introduced MyWAVES, a user-generated content feature on the WAVES OTT platform, enabling citizens to create, upload and share content across formats and languages, with a focus on expanding participation in digital media.
In addition, the government has enabled access to DD Free Dish through television sets with in-built satellite tuners and an advanced electronic programme guide, removing the need for set-top boxes and improving accessibility, particularly in remote areas.
These initiatives are part of the government’s broader effort to support the creative economy, strengthen public broadcasting, and build a skilled workforce for the media and entertainment sector.
