Prasar Bharati’s OTT platform WAVES OTT has crossed 84 lakh registered users since its launch in November 2024. The milestone underscores the platform’s rising adoption as a hub for diverse content spanning TV channels, radio services, films, web series, live events, educational programming and archival material.
This update was submitted by Dr. L. Murugan, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs, in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha.
The user base growth reflects increasing demand for accessible, multilingual public service content. WAVES brings together a vast repository from Prasar Bharati, with archival television shows and documentaries being added in phases to boost discoverability and deepen audience engagement.
Complementing this expansion, Prasar Bharati’s news-sharing platform PB-SHABD, which was launched in March 2024, continues to support content dissemination in 15 Indian languages. Initially offered free for a year, the service has now been extended until March 2027, strengthening access to verified news across regions.
