Apple and Google have entered into a multi-year collaboration under which Apple’s next generation of Foundation Models has been based on Google’s Gemini models and cloud technology. The partnership has positioned Gemini as the underlying AI infrastructure for future Apple Intelligence capabilities.
Apple has conducted an internal evaluation process and has selected Google’s AI technology as the most capable foundation for its Foundation Models. These models have been set to support upcoming Apple Intelligence features, including a more personalized version of Siri that has been scheduled for release later this year.
Apple Intelligence has continued to operate on Apple devices and through its Private Cloud Compute architecture. The company has maintained that its privacy framework has remained intact, with AI processing designed to meet Apple’s existing data protection and privacy standards.
The collaboration has reflected Apple’s broader approach of combining its in-house platforms with external AI technologies to advance product capabilities while retaining control over user experience and privacy.
