State Bank of India has appointed Ravi Ranjan as its Managing Director with effect from December 15, 2025. The appointment has been notified by the Department of Financial Services, Ministry of Finance, under provisions of the State Bank of India Act, 1955, and has taken effect from the date he has assumed charge.
Ranjan has taken over the role until the date of his superannuation on September 30, 2028, or until further orders, whichever is earlier. He has not been disqualified or debarred from holding the office of director by any regulatory authority.
In his role as Managing Director, Ranjan has been entrusted with responsibility for key verticals including Risk, Compliance, and the Stressed Assets Resolution Group (SARG). Prior to this appointment, he has served as Deputy Managing Director, Global Markets, and earlier as Deputy Managing Director, Corporate Accounts Group at the bank.
Before taking on leadership roles at the corporate level, Ranjan has headed the SBI Chennai Circle as Chief General Manager, overseeing operations across Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. He has also served as President and Chief Operating Officer at SBICAPS in Mumbai and has led the retail network as General Manager in Bengaluru.
Ranjan is a career banker who joined State Bank of India as a Probationary Officer in 1991 and has carried over 34 years of experience across multiple domains of banking and finance. His professional journey has also included international assignments in Hong Kong, where he has handled debt syndications, and in Los Angeles, California.
