In a significant recognition of India’s cooperative movement, Amul and Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative (IFFCO) have been ranked first and second globally in the ICA World Cooperative Monitor 2025, released by the International Cooperative Alliance (ICA) in collaboration with the European Research Institute on Cooperative and Social Enterprises (EURICSE).
The announcement was made during the ICA CM50 Conference held in Doha, Qatar, and was shared by the Ministry of Cooperation, Government of India on X (formerly Twitter). Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Amit Shah, congratulated both organisations for their achievement, calling it a landmark moment for India’s cooperative sector.

The 13th edition of the World Cooperative Monitor provides a comprehensive overview of the global cooperative landscape, highlighting how cooperatives contribute to sustainable, inclusive, and resilient economies worldwide. The 2025 report profiles the Top 300 cooperatives, which collectively generated a turnover of USD 2.79 trillion in 2023, across sectors such as agriculture, finance, health, energy, and education.
By turnover relative to GDP per capita, India’s Amul and IFFCO have topped the global list, underscoring the strength of cooperative models in emerging economies and their ability to drive large-scale social and economic impact.
