The Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) rules have been finalised and are set to be released within the next 10 days, IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has said. The rules are expected to be notified by September 28.
“The DPDP rules are ready, about to be released in a few days from now,” Vaishnaw said.
Vaishnaw has said that the rules have followed an extensive consultation process to incorporate inputs from stakeholders. He confirmed the timeline while speaking at the AI Impact Summit pre-event.
Passed in 2023, the Digital Personal Data Protection Act has laid down a framework for the collection and processing of digital personal data, aiming to balance individual privacy rights with the need for lawful data use. The legislation has been designed to foster a more secure and accountable digital environment, with the government stressing that awareness and capacity-building will play a key role in its rollout.
