Ekta Kapoor on Saturday issued a statement distancing herself from the OTT platform ALTT, which was among the 25 platforms recently banned by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting for streaming obscene content online.
In her statement, Kapoor clarified that while she runs Balaji Telefilms, she stepped down from her role at ALTT in June 2021 and has had no association with the platform since then.
“Ms. Ekta Kapoor and Mrs. Shobha Kapoor are not associated in any capacity whatsoever with ALTT and they had stepped down from their association with ALTT way back in June 2021,” the statement said.
ALTT was among the OTT apps banned earlier this week for streaming vulgar and sexually explicit content that the Centre said violated Indian laws. The government invoked The Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986, Section 67 of the IT Act, and Section 292 of the IPC to justify its action. Officials stated the content on these platforms contained sexually explicit scenes, some of which involved prolonged nudity, making it pornographic in nature.
Kapoor also pointed out that Balaji Telefilms has been operating ALTT since June 20, 2025, following its merger with ALT Digital Media Entertainment, which was earlier a wholly owned subsidiary. “Balaji Telefilms Limited, listed on the BSE and NSE, is a professionally run media organization… following the recent amalgamation… it operates ALTT wef June 20, 2025,” the statement said.

She added that Balaji Telefilms continues to comply with all applicable laws and maintains high standards of corporate governance. “Any insinuation contrary to the above facts is strongly denied and the media is requested to report the accurate facts,” Kapoor said.
