HSBC has appointed Shalu Zala as the Vice President- Marketing Strategy and Social Media. Before joining HSBC, Zala was associated with Vodafone Idea as their Head Brand and Marcom – Enterprise from August 2021 to May 2024.
She made the announcement in a LinkedIn post.
At Vi, Zala was in a strategic leadership role where she was responsible for building Vi Business brand, establishing market and thought leadership in B2B space, creation of strategy roadmap and driving Vi Business revenue across all India, sales segments and products.
In this role she managed to define the enterprise marcom strategy, build the enterprise brand strategy and annual marketing plan for VBS. She was also responsible for developing and executing communications plans and marketing collateral for Products and Solutions (in-life and new), all segments.
Prior to this, Zala worked as Chief Brand and Marketing Manager – Home Care, General Merchandise and Home fashion (FMCG-Brands) for Reliance Retail from March 2019 to July 2021. Here, she was responsible for creating brands and marketing them in Home care, general merchandise, home fashion and Licensed categories.
She was Head- Retail Media and Visibility at Trent Hypermarket – Star Bazaar from November 2014 to February 2019. In this role, Zala was responsible for formalising strategy for contributing to the bottom line for the business through secondary space managing brands investment for FMCG and Staples division (offline and online); she also strategised new product launches for the format for all categories along with the media launch of the brands. She developed and managed secondary space for the business and generated revenue.
Previously, Zala was the Brand Manager – SPACES for Welspun Global Brands from 2012 to 2014. She was responsible for Corporate Communication (PR) for the brand, social media marketing for the brand, new product development and avenues for sales, market research programs, among other things.
Before that, Zala was the Brand Licensing Manager – Doraemon at Animation International India where she was responsible for Business Development, Marketing and Brand Management of consumer product lines across all brands and properties (Doraemon, Archie, Mr.Bean, Garfield); She also developed initiatives in non-traditional licensing sectors and managed the creative team to develop marketing strategies and product releases with partners in order to take advantage of brand strength and regional trends.
In her previous stint with Welspun Group, she served as Assistant Brand Manager – SPACES Home and beyond from September 2009 to July 2011. She was responsible for creating appropriate communication plans, planning tactical campaigns and ensuring implementation, conducting local events for promoting the brand, mapping ideas with unique propositions to suit the brand.
Previously, she was the Assistant Manager – Marketing Communications at Reliance Digital Retail for over a year. In this position she was responsible for conceptualising, developing, implementing and managing progressive retail event plans and conceptualising, developing and implementing POP visual plans (Visual Merchandising).
