As Scott Beaumont Steps Down, Google Elevates Sanjay Gupta To President- APAC Role
L-R: Scott Beaumont & Sanjay Gupta

After being associated with Google India as Country Head and Vice President for more than four-and-a-half years, Sanjay Gupta has been promoted as President, APAC.

This development comes in the aftermath of Scott Beaumont deciding to call it quits at Google after 16 years. He had been serving the role of President- Asia Pacific at Google for the last five-and-a-half years and will be parting ways from the company at the end of this year.

Taking to LinkedIn to announce the development, Beaumont mentioned, “After nearly 16 years, I shall be retiring from Google at the end of this year.”

“Google is now at the forefront of an exciting new age of technology with AI. I shall look forward to following the progress, but happily now pass on the baton to my friend and colleague Sanjay Gupta. Since our first meeting five years ago, I have seen Sanjay’s drive to think ambitiously about how technology can be a power for good in the development of his home country: India. He now has the opportunity to pursue that same calling more broadly across Asia Pacific. I know Sanjay will do the position, his team and the company enormous credit and I look forward to supporting him in his early months,” he added.

Following Beaumont’s post, Gupta, who will now be assuming the role of VP- APAC at Google, stated, “The energy at I/O Connect Bengaluru was electrifying! Witnessing 1,800 developers brimming with ideas to solve India’s critical needs in partnership with Google by leveraging Gemini reaffirmed the incredible power of technology to shape our world. As I start my new role as Google’s APAC President, this serves as a powerful reminder of the role we play as an enabler. APAC isn’t just any region; it’s the heart of global growth and innovation, home to half the world’s population and poised to lead the tech revolution.”

“Scott’s leadership and vision has already paved the way for Google’s investments in APAC. We grew our footprint around the region, invested in technical infrastructure, focused on skills development and partnered with the technical and scientific community in the region to support APAC’s prowess. I am humbled and excited to build upon this incredible momentum. APAC has tech savvy users, skilled human capital, a thriving developer and start-up ecosystem, and governments that see AI as a path to economic growth. I look forward to working with our talented team across the region to harness AI’s transformative power for APAC,” he added.

Prior to joining Google India as its Country Head and VP in January 2020, Gupta was associated with Star India for more than a decade. He joined them as Chief Operating Officer in 2009 and was elevated to the position of Managing Director at the company in 2016.
