Yahoo Inc. debuted Yahoo Scout, a proprietary AI-powered answer engine, now available in beta. Built using Yahoo’s data, content and user insights, along with over three decades of search history, Yahoo Scout is rolling out across Yahoo Search and the broader Yahoo portfolio. It is available to nearly 250 million users in the United States on desktop and mobile.
As search shifts from links to answers and from keywords to natural language queries, Yahoo Scout synthesises information from the open web, Yahoo data and Yahoo-owned content to provide clear and concise responses. The interface presents information through structured formats such as lists and tables, along with transparent sources to support understanding and verification.
Yahoo Scout is uniquely shaped by Yahoo’s three decades of user insights and deep understanding of how people search, discover, make decisions and accomplish goals online. It brings together the best of traditional web search and generative AI search to deliver the right information and assistance at the right time for Yahoo’s vast user base, which reaches 90 percent of U.S. internet users each month. It’s informed by 500 million user profiles, a knowledge graph spanning more than 1 billion entities, and 18 trillion consumer events that occur annually across Yahoo, which allow Yahoo Scout to provide effective and personalized answers and suggested actions.
Drawing from Yahoo’s owned and operated properties, Yahoo Scout focuses on everyday information needs, including weather updates, sports results, stock price movements, product comparisons and news verification.
An Intelligence Platform Across Yahoo
Yahoo also announced the launch of the Yahoo Scout Intelligence Platform, which integrates AI capabilities across Yahoo Mail, News, Finance, Sports and other verticals. The platform supports features such as AI summaries in Yahoo Mail, game breakdowns in Yahoo Sports and key takeaways in Yahoo News.
Additional features include Yahoo Shopping, powered by Yahoo Scout, which aggregates research from expert articles and user discussions to compare products and provide shopping links. Within Yahoo Finance, Analysis by Yahoo Scout offers real-time insights covering company news, analyst ratings, financials and earnings calls.
The platform also introduces “More from Yahoo Scout”, embedded within Yahoo Finance articles, enabling users to explore deeper insights through AI-powered prompts. Comment Summaries are being added to select articles on the Yahoo homepage to highlight key themes from user discussions.
Yahoo Announces First AI Partnerships
Yahoo announced partnerships with Anthropic and Microsoft as part of the Yahoo Scout rollout. Anthropic’s Claude has been selected as the primary foundational AI model for Yahoo Scout. Yahoo Scout also leverages Microsoft Bing’s grounding API to ensure responses are informed by authoritative sources from across the open web. Yahoo is also participating in Microsoft’s Publisher Content Marketplace pilot.
