Wendy’s Takes On McDonald’s In Its New Super Bowl Ad

| Published on February 2, 2018

Brand wars are not new, from the time business started companies want to be better than their competitors and sometimes they do so by great ads pointing on the negatives of their rivals. Popular companies don’t leave a single chance to attract customers by trolling their rivals. The result we get is very creative ads. Popular food chain Wendy’s has roasted McDonald’s in its new 30-second ad by reminding customers that McDonald’s flash freezes its meat.
For this ad, Wendy’s said the company made some efforts to research on the internet and found that McDonald’s website admits that the beef they use is actually flash frozen to seal in fresh flavour.

Also, they compared frozen beef to the iceberg that sunk the Titanic. Wendy’s has been attacking McDonald’s for frozen beef from long. Last year Wendy’s official Twitter account was seen doing so.

This tweet got a lot of replies from users and Wendy’s was successful to do what it had planned to do.
Kurt Kane, the marketing officer for Wendy’s, wrote a post on his blog explaining about this ad campaign. He said Wendy’s got annoyed when McDonald’s officially announced that it would make most of its Quarter Pounders using fresh, not frozen, beef. Wendy’s always uses fresh beef in their burgers and has made this as the main point of its marketing. “Think of it this way, do you throw a frozen beef patty on the grill?” Kane wrote in his blog.

McDonald’s is yet to respond to this act by Wendy’s but we believe that another story about brand wars is in the making. What are your thoughts on this? Do let us know in comments.
