Kroll, the independent global financial and risk advisory firm, has released its 2024 ranking of India’s most powerful celebrity brands, measuring brand value based on endorsement portfolios and social media presence. Virat Kohli has retained the top spot with a brand value of $231.1 million, followed by Ranveer Singh at $170.7 million and Shah Rukh Khan at $145.7 million. Alia Bhatt has moved up to fourth position with $116.4 million, while Sachin Tendulkar has risen to fifth with $112.2 million, driven by an increase in endorsement deals.
The rankings reflect significant shifts in celebrity influence. Akshay Kumar holds sixth place at $108 million, with Deepika Padukone and MS Dhoni sharing the seventh spot at $102.9 million each. Hrithik Roshan and Amitabh Bachchan occupy ninth and tenth positions at $92.2 million and $83.7 million respectively, while Kareena Kapoor stands at eleventh with $79.5 million. The list also sees emerging stars and sports icons gaining prominence, including Ranbir Kapoor, Kiara Advani, Kartik Aaryan, Rashmika Mandanna, Salman Khan, Anushka Sharma, Rohit Sharma, Kriti Sanon, Hardik Pandya, Tamannaah Bhatia, Jasprit Bumrah, Ayushmann Khurrana, Allu Arjun, and Ananya Panday, rounding out the top 25 with brand values ranging from $70.3 million to $35.2 million.
Beyond individual celebrity rankings, the report highlights broader industry trends. Hindi cinema’s share of the box office fell to 39.5 percent in 2024, while South Indian cinema surged to 47.7 percent, signaling a shift in audience preferences. OTT platforms contributed more than half of total revenues for major releases, complementing theatrical experiences. Nostalgia-driven re-releases of films such as Jab We Met, Tumbbad, and Ghilli performed exceptionally, reaffirming the enduring appeal of classic titles.
Umakanta Panigrahi, Managing Director of Valuation Advisory Services at Kroll, said that the hybrid model of combining theatrical releases with OTT content has strengthened the industry. He added that re-releases have restored cinemas as a central entertainment platform, balancing large-scale spectacles with accessible home viewing.
