The Forbes Annual Billionaire list is a comprehensive list comprising billionaires from 75 countries spread over 6 continents. This year’s list has bought to light many different trends.
Overview
The number of billionaires in comparison with the last year dropped by nearly 90 individuals.
Three billionaires from China on the list last year had to exit due to a drop in net worth. This can be attributed to the ever-so-often COVID-19 outbreaks that disrupted businesses, causing losses coupled with other causes.
Russia too, with its invasion of Ukraine, experienced markets collapsing, causing 34 billionaires to get ousted from the list.
On the other hand, the number of billionaires rose in various countries, like the United States of America and India.
With four new billionaires, the country of Taiwan has entered the top ten list.
Four countries- Uruguay, Barbados, Bulgaria, and Estonia now have at least one billionaire in their country, making the countries a part of the list.
Countries and Territories with the highest number of billionaires
1. The United States of America
The country locked in 735 billionaires, making it the country with the highest number of resident billionaires.
2. China
In spite of losing out on quite a few individuals, China still remains the country with the second-highest number of billionaires with 539 billionaires’
3. India
India added 26 billionaires to its list, making it the third country with 166 billionaires.
4. Germany
The European country is the fourth country on the list. It has 134 billionaires.
5. Russia
Russia houses 83 billionaires, a massive drop from 117 last year. In spite of this, it is fifth on the list.
6. Hong Kong
In the autonomous territory of China, Hong Kong houses 67 billionaires. It has the maximum number of billionaires per million people.
7. Canada2>
Canada has retained the number of billionaires with 64 individuals, for two years in succession. It is number seventh on the list.
8.Brazil
The biggest country in the South American continent, Brazil has 62 billionaires, making it the 8th country on the list.
9. Italy
Italy registered an increase of one billionaire, taking the number to 52 billionaires residing in the country.
10. Taiwan
Taiwan has 51 billionaires’ in the country, making it clinch the tenth spot on the list, for the first time.
Taiwan is followed by United Kingdom, Australia, Sweden, France and a tie between Switzerland and South Korea, followed by Japan and then again, a tie between Israel and Indonesia. Thailand ranks twentieth of the list of the country with the highest number of billionaires.
