The year 2021 has been one of the most fantastic years in business for India. With scores of IPOs happening, a plethora of startups being found, and a whopping $15.6 billion being raised, India has witnessed a rise in the number of billionaires taking the toll to 166, adding 26 new billionaires in the list.
The top three billionaires from the last year have retained their positions this year as well. Mukesh Ambani retained his position as the richest Indian and Asia’s richest man. He also added another feather to his cap becoming the tenth richest man on the planet, with a net worth of $90.7 billion. Following him is commodities and infrastructure tycoon, Gautam Adani, who added a whopping $40 billion to his fortune to become Asia’s second richest person. With $90 billion as his net worth, he is the 11th richest man in the world.
Shiv Nadar, an IT entrepreneur par excellence, added 22% to his wealth this year, taking his net worth to $28.7 billion, which made him retain his position of the country’s third richest man.
Serum institute Of India’s chief, Cyrus Poonawalla’s wealth rocketed to $24.3 billion, after the successful rollout of Covishield. He doubled his wealth last year with a record of revenue and earnings coming his way. He is on 56th in the Forbes Rich List 2022.
Radhakishan Damani, has come in 81st in the Forbes List, with a net worth of $20 billion. His Avenue Supermarkets, that runs the successful D-Mart chain, has 271 stores in the country. The stock market investor who ventured into retailing two decades ago, has reportedly bought a house in Mumbai amounting to $100 million, along with his billionaire brother Gopikishan.
Arcelor Mittal’s Chairperson Lakshmi Mittal’s reported net worth is $17.9 billion and this has made the steel and mining magnate, the 89th richest man in the world. His company made a net profit of $15 billion last year.
The matron of the Jindal group, Savitri Jindal, who inherited her late husband’s business, benefitted immensely from the rising shares of the JSW Steel and JSW Energy. Her net worth amounts to $17.7 billion making her the 91th richest person on earth. Also, she is one of the 13 women to be featured in the billionaire’s list.
With a net worth of $16.5 billion, Kumar Mangalam Birla is the eight richest Indian and 109th richest person in the world. He is followed by Sun Pharmaceuticals’ Dilip Sanghavi whose net worth is $15.6 billion and is the ninth richest Indian. The tenth richest Indian is banking legend Uday Kotak of the Kotak Mahindra bank with a net worth of $14.3 billion.
These were the ten richest Indians according to the Forbes’ List 2022. The list also features Azim Premji, Rakesh Jhunjhunwala and Nykaa founder Falguni Nayar.
