Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI) has acquired the media rights for the 20th Asian Games 2026, bringing the continental multi-sport event back to the Sony Sports Network. Scheduled to be held in Japan from September 19 to October 4, 2026, the Games will be broadcast live across Sony Sports Network channels and streamed on Sony LIV. The deal covers India and the wider Indian subcontinent.
The upcoming edition arrives at a high point for India, following its best-ever performance at the previous Asian Games, where the country secured a record 107 medals. With a mix of emerging talent and experienced athletes, expectations are strong for another standout showing.
The Asian Games remain one of the largest multi-sport events globally, featuring 41 disciplines, including 32 Olympic sports. The 2026 edition will also include newer additions such as Mixed Martial Arts and surfing, alongside fan favourites like cricket, tennis, esports, kabaddi, sepak takraw and kurash. Cricket is expected to be a major draw for Indian viewers, with both men’s and women’s teams aiming to reassert dominance at the continental level, boosting India’s medal prospects further.
SPNI will deliver extensive coverage of the Games, including expert analysis and multi-language programming, offering audiences a comprehensive viewing experience, from the opening ceremony through to the final medal events.
Rajesh Kaul, Chief Revenue Officer and Business Head – Sports and International, Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI), said, “The Asian Games represents sporting excellence and is a powerful platform for national pride. As the 20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026 prepares to welcome the best athletes from Asia, we are proud to bring this continental multi-sport event back to Sony Pictures Networks for the third time.”
He further added, “India’s historic performance at the last edition, where the nation crossed the 100-medal milestone for the first time, has ignited unprecedented interest in multi-sport events. The stage is set for another unforgettable chapter with the inclusion of cricket along with a formidable Indian contingent ready to chase new milestones. We are committed to delivering immersive coverage that celebrates every medal and inspires millions across the country as our athletes strive for greatness once again.”
Husain Al-Musallam, Director General, Olympic Council of Asia, said, “The Olympic Council of Asia congratulates Sony Pictures Networks India on the signing of the media broadcast rights agreement with the OCA for the Aichi Nagoya Asian Games. This marks the beginning of a new phase in the distribution of the Asian Games across the Indian Sub-Continent.”
