Sandeep Walunj has been appointed as Chief Growth Officer at Equirus, where he has taken on the responsibility of driving the institutionalisation of the ‘One Equirus’ vision across the group. In his new role, he has been tasked with strengthening processes, behaviours, identity, and communication to accelerate business growth, enhance brand equity, and build long-term market leadership for the financial services firm.
Walunj has shared the development through a recent update on LinkedIn, announcing that he has started his new position as Chief Growth Officer at Equirus. The update has marked the formal confirmation of his appointment and his transition into the leadership role at the company.
Prior to joining Equirus in January 2026, Walunj has served as Executive Director and Group Chief Marketing Officer at Motilal Oswal Financial Services from April 2024 to October 2025. Before that, he has spent over eight years at Nippon India Mutual Fund, where he has held the role of Chief Marketing Officer and Member of AMFI FLC between February 2016 and March 2024.
Earlier in his career, Walunj has worked as Mentor and Chief Advisor at IVEE Infoservices from April 2015 to February 2016. Between August 2012 and March 2015, he has served as EVP and Chief Marketing Officer at Magma Fincorp, where he has led a comprehensive transformation agenda across asset finance, insurance, and housing finance businesses, focusing on consumer-centric growth and digital brand building.
Walunj has also held the position of CMO- Value Retail (Big Bazaar) at Future Value Retail from November 2009 to August 2012. Prior to that, he has worked with PepsiCo as Vice President – Marketing Innovation from January 2007 to October 2009, and with Heineken as Head of Non-Alcoholic Business in Dubai from January 2005 to December 2006. His earlier stints have included roles as Senior Brand Manager at Reckitt Benckiser between August 2002 and December 2004, Product Manager at Royal Friesland Foods from October 2000 to August 2002, and Product Manager/Area Manager at Wipro Consumer Care from 1997 to 2000.
