United Spirits (USL) has initiated a strategic review of its investment in Royal Challengers Sports (RCSPL), a wholly owned subsidiary of the company. RCSPL owns the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) franchise teams that participate in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the Women’s Premier League (WPL), both hosted annually by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
The process has been expected to conclude by March 31, 2026, indicating that a new owner could take charge before the next financial year. The move has come as part of Diageo and USL’s continued effort to streamline their India portfolio and focus on the company’s core alcobev business.
Praveen Someshwar, Managing Director and CEO, United Spirits, said, “RCSPL has been a valuable and strategic asset for USL, however it’s non-core to our alcobev business. This step reinforces USL’s & Diageo’s commitment to continue reviewing its India enterprise portfolio to enable sustained delivery of long-term value to all its stakeholders, while keeping RCSPL’s best interest in mind.”
