Gaming giant Tencent Gaming and PUBG Group have joined hands to organise the Oppo PUBG Mobile India tour, a multi-city gaming tournament with a prize pool of Rs.15 million.
The event kicked off on July 1st, with the regional events scheduled in Jaipur, Guwahati, Pune and Vizag while the grand finale will be hosted in Kolkata in October.
The contest is open to Indian residents who have a Platinum 5 (Level 20) PUBG mobile account. While there are no restrictions to the number of players registering in a group and are not restricted by geographical region, the number of registrations by an individual participant is limited to one.
Tournament And Match Details
For squad only format, the matches will be played across four maps, spread over various rounds with a mix of both first person and third person gaming modes. Based on the points secured by the registered squads during the in-game qualifier phase, the top 500 teams from each group will be selected for “Online Playoffs”.
The pool will then be filtered to 20 best teams across groups for the group finals and the top 4 teams from each group will be directly promoted to the grand finale of the tour.
The wild card round will give another opportunity to the top 64 eliminated teams (16 from each group) to play the online playoffs and prove their might and 4 squads from the wild card group will make it to the grand finale.
Cash Prizes And More
Of the total cash prize of Rs.15 million, the top ranking team will win Rs.5 million while the first and second runner up will be awarded Rs. 2 million and Rs. 1 million respectively. Also, all players qualifying to the finale will be awarded cash prizes.
Players qualifying Group Final and Grand finals will receive Rs.2. 5 million in logistical support including. Group finalists will also get Rs. 1 million worth of PUBG Mobile merchandise. Also, the most popular teams which will be voted by the public will win Rs.1 million as well.
Other cash prizes ranging from Rs. 50,000- Rs.1,00,000 will be awarded to players based on their achievements and scores.
Aneesh Aravind, General Manager, Tecent India shared their vision of developing esports in India and their collaboration plan with Youtube and Facebook content creators to stream the matches live.
He also added that “by bringing the finals to 5 cities we are hoping to engage and excite our player base across India and make PMIT, uniquely Indian.”
