Audio entertainment platform Pocket FM has filed a lawsuit against Disney+ Hotstar in the Delhi High Court, alleging that the video streaming platform violated the copyright of its audio series ‘Yakshini’.
Pocket FM has sought an interim injunction against Novi Digital Entertainment, the parent company of Disney+ Hotstar. They have requested the court to direct the streaming platform to remove the trailer of the web series, as per reports.
The matter is listed for Thursday before Justice Neena Bansal Krishna’s bench. Disney+ Hotstar is expected to submit its response to the bench.
Pocket FM filed a plea on June 11, claiming its copyright ownership of ‘Yakshini’, a content available on its platform since May 2021, reports stated.
It alleged that Disney+ Hotstar’s Telugu web series, also named ‘Yakshini’, shares numerous similarities with their existing audio series.
The video streaming platform has already unveiled the promo for the upcoming web series, scheduled to start streaming from June 14.
As per reports, Pocket FM has filed a plea claiming that Disney+ Hotstar’s web series portrays the character ‘Yakshini’ in a manner closely resembling its own audio series. The plea highlights that both series feature Yakshini’s arrival from another world as a shared narrative element.
