Bharat Gupta, CEO, Jagran New Media, who represented the digital news industry during the roundtable at the curtain raiser event for the World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES), highlighted several key challenges and suggestions for the government regarding the digital space.
Industry members pointed out that MSMEs should be incentivised to advertise digitally, with a focus on inclusivity across languages.
“The digital sector contributes a significant 25% of the total revenue in the Media and Entertainment space, highlighting its importance,” Gupta said.
Gupta recommended that a new, unified content rating system should be implemented to provide standardised, transparent, and reliable performance metrics across digital platforms. This would enhance advertiser confidence and help content creators and distributors make informed decisions.
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting held an industry stakeholder consultation Roundtable meeting on July 13, 2024, chaired by Ashwini Vaishnaw, Minister for Railways, Information and Broadcasting, Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India.
The meeting, part of the Curtain Raiser event for the inaugural World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES), gathered insights on current challenges and regulatory issues faced by the entertainment and media industry to shape discussions at WAVES-2024.
