The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has proposed tighter disclosure norms for AI-generated content, mandating a continuous, clearly visible label throughout the duration of such visual material. The move has replaced the earlier requirement of ensuring “prominent visibility” under the existing IT Rules.
The proposal has been included in the draft amendments to the IT Rules, which, as per media reports, have also outlined provisions to bring independent news creators under regulatory oversight and mandate compliance with government advisories.
MeitY has also extended the deadline for stakeholder feedback and comments on the draft amendments to May 7, 2026, from the earlier deadline of April 29, 2026.
