1. Ghazal Alagh
Ghazal Alagh started Mamaearth, a skincare product company, after her search for non-toxic and chemical-free skincare products for her son, left her dejected. She then found Mamaearth, which in a short span of time became India’s leading baby care, mother care and skincare products company. Mamaearth entered the coveted unicorn club in December 2021, after raising around $80 million. With her personal net worth amounting to $17 million, she was also seen as a shark in the popular entrepreneurship-based reality show Shark Tank in 2021.
2. Meenal Arora
Meenal co-founded Shemford Futuristic School in 2009. With over 16 years of experience in the field of education, Meenal has been instrumental in establishing more than 625 pre-schools and formal schools in India, Nepal and Bangladesh. This commitment and dedication towards, got her honored with the title of ‘Most schools launched in the shortest time’.
An author and a parenting expert, Meenal believes that kids are kinesthetic learners and learn better when practically shown, rather than just being read to.
3. Suchi Mukherjee
While she was on maternity leave, Suchi Mukherjee, while reading a magazine, was fascinated with a piece of jewellery, that she badly wanted. But there was no way she could lay her hands on it, and thus was born the idea for a lifestyle platform for women. Limeroad came into being in 2011 and has won many awards like the ‘Coolest startup of the year’ and ‘unicorn Start-up Award’. It is one of the leading social shopping websites in the country.
4. Mani Pavitra
This serial entrepreneur, first started as an orthodontist and was helping set up dental clinics in Hyderabad, in 2010. She then started her own brand Dentist & Dontist in 2012. But she got a taste of reality, when she realized there wasn’t much available in terms of pregnancy education in her city. As a result, she got herself a Lamaze certification, and started ‘Pampered Moms’. Her brand covers pregnancy fitness, lactation consultation and even postnatal fitness. She also runs ‘Pampered Kids’, a children’s play zone and birthday party and activity centre.
5. Shruti Ajmera Reddy
On realising that almost 95% of baby food brands, contain toxic and harmful ingredients or substances like lead, Shruti started Hapup, a start-up that offers nutritional mixes for kids, which are made without using any chemical or preservative, and are even devoid of sugar and salt. They are made using regional ingredients and are naturally processed.
While foods for babies can be home-made too, it requires patience and planning. And that’s when Hapup helps in providing nourishing and nutritive food for them.
