Having set up one of India’s leading hyperlocal retail companies, Magicpin, Brij Bhushan who has been associated with the company as Co-Founder and COO, since June 2019, has decided to call it quits.
Since its inception in 2015, Magicpin has primarily operated as a virtual classifieds platform specializing in providing hyperlocal deals and discounts within the realm of retail, food and entertainment industry.
Currently, Magicpin is backed by Zomato, Lightspeed Venture Partners and Waterbridge Ventures.
Prior to establishing Magicpin alongside the company’s other Co-founder and CEO Anshoo Sharma, Bhushan was the VP of Nexus Venture Partners for a period of more than two years during which he closely worked with brands such as Housing.com, Delhivery, FunctionSpace, TinyOwl and Targeting Mantra.
From August 2011 to March 2013, he served as the VP- Category at UrbanTouch.com wherein he not only built and led the category function but also oversaw other functions and projects in segments such as time procurement, new products, leadership hiring and investor relations.
Before that, he also worked at Bain & Company for a period of more than four years, contributing to both the USA and India divisions as a Strategy Consultant.
In the early part of his career, he also worked as a Software Engineer in companies such as Aricent, Infosys Technologies, Newgen Software Technologies, etc.
Expressing his views on stepping down from his current role, Bhushan mentioned “Over the past 9 years at Magicpin, I’ve experienced a rollercoaster of highs and lows, filled with growth, challenges, and profound learning. Now, it’s time for me to take a step back, but what a journey it has been.”
“COVID-19 nearly wiped us out, but we fought back, creating a home delivery system from nothing to support local retailers when they needed us most. This initiative, now powering ONDC, wasn’t just about survival; it was our commitment to the community, our most fulfilling achievement. Our amazing team’s resilience saw us not just recover but soar to 3 times our size in the last 2 years, now at 4x our pre-COVID revenue. That’s something I’m really proud of,” he added.
Furthermore, he also emphasised that as he ‘pauses’ to ‘recharge’, he is leaving the company knowing that Magicpin is in the ‘best hands’.
