After being created by a Delhi-based app developer, bought by Dubai-based Siblings, the domain name JioHotstar.com has now been officially transferred to Viacom18 Media, a subsidiary of Reliance Industries.
The same can be verified on the WHOIS records, which now reflect Viacom18 Media as the new owner of the much talked-about domain name and as per reports, the transfer was completed only this week.
The months-long saga of the rightful ownership of ‘JioHotstar.com’ began when a Delhi-based app developer bought the domain name in anticipation of the RIL-Disney merger, hoping to capitalise on the potential new name of the merged OTT entities- JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar.
As the merger moved to its final stages, the developer had offered RIL to buy the domain for over Rs 1 crore for he wanted the money to support his educational dreams, but the conversation came to an end after making multiple headlines as RIL had at once rejected the offer. Post this, the domain was sold to Dubai-based siblings- Jainam and Jivika Jain, for charitable purposes.
But just as there’s light at the end of every tunnel, the domain has finally found its way back to RIL’s Viacom18 Media. However, the newly merged entity has neither revealed its new name, nor disclosed its plans to utilise the domain.
