Meta-owned Instagram has introduced a new feature that has allowed users to edit their comments after posting, offering a way to correct typos and errors without deleting content. Users have been able to edit their comments within 15 minutes of posting, with the option to make multiple changes during this time window. The feature has started rolling out.
The update has aimed to improve user experience, particularly for creators and users who actively engage in conversations and may make quick typing errors. Previously, users had to delete and repost comments to make corrections.
Instagram has clarified that only the text portion of a comment can be edited. In cases where a comment includes both text and a photo, only the written content has remained editable. Edited comments have been marked as such, though version history has not been visible to others.
Key details of the feature have included the ability to edit comments within 15 minutes of posting, make multiple edits within that timeframe, and limitations restricting edits to text only.
In a separate development, Meta has been testing a new paid subscription model on Instagram, called Instagram Plus, in select countries, as per reports. The move has been positioned as an effort to expand revenue streams beyond advertising.
The Instagram Plus subscription has offered additional features, particularly around Stories. Subscribers have been able to view Stories anonymously, access data on how many users rewatched their posts, and create unlimited audience lists beyond the Close Friends option. The feature has also allowed users to extend the visibility of Stories up to 48 hours, highlight one Story per week at the top of followers’ feeds, and send animated “Superlikes.”
