Gopichand P. Hinduja, Chairman of the Hinduja Group, has passed away in London at the age of 85. Fondly known as ‘GP’ in business circles, he has been unwell for the past few weeks and has died in a London hospital.
Gopichand, who belonged to the second generation of the Hinduja family, took over as chairman following the death of his elder brother, Srichand P. Hinduja, in May 2023. He has been survived by his wife, Sunita, sons Sanjay and Dheeraj, and daughter, Rita.
Under Gopichand’s leadership, the Hinduja Group has continued its global expansion, topping the annual Sunday Times Rich List for the fourth consecutive year with an estimated fortune of GBP 35.3 billion. The Group has recently added the Old War Office (OWO) luxury hotel complex in central London to its wide-ranging portfolio.
Throughout his career, Gopichand has been recognised as a strong advocate for strengthening India-U.K. economic ties. He has frequently addressed business gatherings in London, encouraging companies to invest in India’s growing economy. “We have always been working to see what best we can do between India and the UK because we believe our responsibility is to act as a bridge between the host country and the motherland,” he reportedly said at a recent event.
Over the years, he has received several honours, including a Lifetime Achievement Award for his contributions to business and industry at the Lokmat Global Economic Convention in August 2025.
Together with his brothers, Srichand, Prakash, and Ashok, Gopichand has helped shape the Hinduja Group into one of the most prominent Indian-origin business families in Britain. The Group has operated across 48 countries, spanning industries such as automotive, oil and speciality chemicals, banking and finance, IT, cybersecurity, healthcare, trading, infrastructure, media, power, and real estate.
