It seems to be a controversial month for brands as days after Amazon India got boycotted on Twitter, Italian fashion brand Gucci is also facing problems for selling its new traditional Sikh turbans on Nordstrom’s website for $800 ( Rs 56,000 approx.)
Named as ‘Indy Full Turban,’ sold in just one size, the product is described as, “A gorgeously crafted turban is ready to turn heads while keeping you in comfort as well as trademark style.”
Users online are unhappy over this with many calling out Gucci for insensitivity towards religious beliefs and its symbolism and are expressing their anger.
.@gucci @Nordstrom The Sikh turban is not just a fashion accessory, but it’s also a sacred religious article of faith. We hope more can be done to recognize this critical context. #appropriation https://t.co/p1z3CYq0NT

Seriously @Nordstrom @gucci ? The turban is one of the most important and symbolic articles of faith for Sikhs, and you’re selling it as a fashion accessory to make money? This isn’t the first time you’ve come under fire for cultural appropriation. Do better. pic.twitter.com/3KHtHSKEqm

If Gucci wanted to be inclusive they should have sought out some actual Sikh gentlemen to model. Worked with a Sikh man at a department store. He made ready to wear look bespoke and was the kindest person.

This is not the first time Gucci has been involved in such a case. Last year at Milan Fashion Week, a male model walked the runway with a headgear resembling Sikh turbans which triggered an outrage.
