India is very well known for its tradition and culture, but the fact is, it is the artists who have been able to keep the same old traditions and cultures alive. Same goes for the designers who have created a new world of embroidery with unique colours.
When we talk about embroidery and designers, Suruchi Parakh Couture is the wave of trend that is dominating the fashion world at present. This Surat based brand makes Indo-Western bridal wear and outfits for special occasions. It also caters to both customized orders and provides ready-to-wear sets from its lookbooks.
Let us know more about Suruchi Parakh Couture and the present scenario of the brand.
How it all started?
Suruchi Parakh was born and raised in Ahmedabad. She always had an interest for colours and trends right from her childhood. Interestingly, she even sold her first piece of art at the age of 10. She was just in grade VI when she set her mind towards fashion design.
In 2011, Suruchi got the opportunity to work with designer Varun Bahl while studying at NIFT – Gandhinagar. After graduating from the university in 2012, she traveled to Italy for a year, as part of a training program.
Passion is limitless!
In Italy, she used her Indian glamour to redesign and give new touches to the designs of Italian designers. Upon returning to India in 2013, she worked with Jinaam, a Surat-based label, as their head designer.
According to her, people want designer clothes which are also affordable, and because of this, there is a lot of mass-manufacturing that happens. But the mass market was definitely not what Suruchi was looking for and thus, she decided to start her own brand. Finally, in 2015, Suruchi founded Suruchi Parakh Couture, her own brand.
This is what ‘present’ looks like
Suruchi had initially faced the challenge of stabilizing the finances and organizational structure but learned how to navigate better through the years.
She continued all her operations in a small garage for around six months. Today, the 80-member team works in a space measuring 4,000 sq ft. In early 2018, she also launched her flagship store in Surat, separate from the production house.
The flight to success
The brand produces around 200 new designs every three months and caters to over 2,500 customers in 2018.
In 2018, the brand earned revenue of a whopping ₹2.5 crore, which according to Suruchi, is a 26 percent jump from the previous year. The brand has also catered to a few celebrity clients such as South Indian actors Sukrutha and Manvitha.
There’s no looking back!
Suruchi aims to open up more stores, in either Ahmedabad or Mumbai. Together with her husband, she plans to expand, strengthen the brand’s structure, and its presence in the fashion industry.
To all the women of our society especially the young girls, Suruchi Parakh is an inspiration for all. “Don’t wait for the ‘right moment’. If you want to do it, put in the right kind of effort and positivity, and I’m sure you will be able to achieve whatever you want!”, says Suruchi as a piece of advice for every woman who aspires to run their own fashion brand.
